4 Surprising Places to Shop for or Register for Baby Items (now that BabiesRUs is gone)

In the wake of toy and baby gear sales giant ToysRUs/ BabaiesRUs’s fall it can be hard to know where to shop for baby items. However there are dozens of stores, both online and Brick and mortar that offer amazing baby sections.

1. Nordstrom

The first store and perhaps most overlooked by many is Nordstrom. You may think of perfume and designer hand bags when you hear someone mention Seattle based, Nordstrom Department Store. What you may not know is that nestled among lovely fragrances and high end shoes is a vast (some stores more than others) sea of strollers, tiny clothes and amazing accessories for babies. On par with the rest of their merchandise, their line of baby products contains high quality, practical pieces that will last. Of course with quality also comes cost, but Nordstrom’s prices seem to be comparable with other’s in the market when comparing exact items. Perhaps the best factor when buying baby items at Nordstrom is that they have literally taken the guesswork out of shopping. Since they carry only a few high quality choices for each type of item they eliminate the need for hours of research or trial and error shopping. You can rest assured that whatever you buy is high quality and in most cases high function at Nordstrom. As with all their products, Nordstrom baby items carry a 90 day return policy. If you haven’t shopped the Nordstrom baby department I encourage you to take a look online or in store. I’m sure you’ll be amazed! (If you choose to shop online, remember to go through Ebates for cash back savings!).

2. Amazon

If you are looking for the all inclusive, get everything from diapers, to a bassinet to that steak you’ve been craving and everything in between, then Amazon may be your best bet for one stop baby shopping. Amazon is the Mecca for all things baby and if you are a Prime member you can usually score free 2 day shipping for most items n(and of course super easy returns). As far as registries got it’s super easy and convenient to register online for all your baby must haves. One con with using Amazon as your only registry is that many people still want to go in a purchase baby items for a shower. They want to oooh and ah at the sweet, little clothes, feel the ever so soft blankies and feel like they’ve put a personal touch on their gift. Our recommendation would be to register at a brick and mortar store such as Target, or do an all inclusive registry in order to add items from other stores to your list. This way you can still guide those who would like to get you something from a list even if they prefer to sho in store. (If you choose to shop online, remember to go through Ebates for cash back savings!).

3. Bed Bath & Beyond

Perhaps a better name would be Bed, Bath, Baby and Beyond. Although most Bed Bath and Beyond stores have not always carried baby items in store, the large home goods retailer carries a great deal of baby items online and in some stores. This is likely because they also own the baby specialty chain Buy Buy Baby.

Like Amazon, Bed Bath and Beyond offers a very broad range of baby items with  limited store front access to baby items. Bed Bath and Beyond may be a great place for big ticket items as the retailer often offers a 20% off coupon simply for giving your email address (note: many brands can be excluded from this discount).

4. Zulily

Zulily is an online collection of shops and brands that hold sales within the Zulily site for a limited time. Products may have limited quantities, sizes or colors however on any given day you can find a plethora of name brand baby, maternity and nursing items at a fraction of the cost of other retailers. Zulily often has one of the largest collections of maternity and nursing clothing we’ve seen and in those first few weeks after baby arrives they are an excellent resource to find just what you need for postpartum necessities.
